VIENNA, 19 August (UN Information Service) - Every year on August 19th, we mark World Humanitarian Day in honour of aid workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

(Photo - UN)17 August 2013 - UN Security Council held closed consultations on Egypt. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliason briefed Council members on the situation in the country. After completion of the consultations, the Chairman of the Security Council on behalf of all its members stressed the importance of ending the violence and called on all Egyptian parties to exercise maximum restraint.


UN inspectors in Syria

(Photo - AP)16 August 2013 - On Thursday, the Syrian government has agreed to the terms of the International Inspection of Chemical Weapons.

In the next few days UN inspectors will go to Syria, where for 14 days they will investigate the possible use of chemical weapons.
