UN Security Council held closed consultations on Egypt

(Photo - UN)17 August 2013 - UN Security Council held closed consultations on Egypt. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliason briefed Council members on the situation in the country. After completion of the consultations, the Chairman of the Security Council on behalf of all its members stressed the importance of ending the violence and called on all Egyptian parties to exercise maximum restraint.

"Members of the Council expressed their common desire to stop the violence and to promote national reconciliation," said the Chairman of the Security Council, the Permanent Representative of Argentina to the UN Maria Cristina Perceval told reporters after the consultations.
